This was a freelance project to create a brand identity for a company that is changing the way that people train for karate. Using the technology of sensors, it analyzes the user’s movement and offers tips to improve their form.
The company wanted to stray away from the cliché karate imagery for their brand identity, instead they wanted a brandmark that emphasized movement more than anything.
Before I start sketching out ideas, I like to start with a visual matrix in order to create visual representations of the ideals that centered around the brand. This also helps when combining visual elements that you usually wouldn’t think of juxtaposing as well as communicating multiple ideas and brand values.
I wanted the brandmark to emphasize motion as well as incorporating the technology involved with the company that would add more of a unique spin to the mark.
